B.C. introduces legislation to reduce poverty rate by 60% over next decade

Last month, B.C. introduced legislation to reduce poverty rate by 60 per cent over the next decade. Together along with EIC members, The BC Poverty Reduction Coalition, we welcome higher poverty reduction targets, but the legislative changes that will get us to these goals are still lacking.

As BC PRC’s campaign manager Chantelle Spicer recently responded to on CBC Radio with host Sheila Malcolmson (Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction), raising social assistance rates would be a great place to start (among a slate of other poverty-reduction strategies championed by the BC PRC and their coalition members).
